My name is LaQuayia Goldring. I’m 35 years old and in urgent need of a kidney transplant. Due to a rare kidney cancer, I went into complete renal failure when I was 17 years old. I was lucky enough to receive a kidney transplant the following year, but unfortunately, my deceased donor kidney stopped working in 2015. Seven years of dialysis have taken a large toll on my body and my ability to live a quality life. Not too many people say this, but I REALLY miss working and the sense of purpose that it provides. Thankfully I’ve been given the opportunity to volunteer and advocate for patient needs. I even testified before congress!
A transplant from a living donor would literally give me another chance at life. I want to attend medical school, become a parent some day (and spend endless amounts of time with my nieces and nephews), and be able to travel freely without having to worry about where I’m going to get dialysis. I want to feel normal.
I would be so grateful if you shared my story.
Thank you.
